A to B route with blocks to create zones of different character

Zone one is created by having two focuses either side of the path to create a walkway feel. Zone two is based around a central point of interest (perhaps a fountain or statue) to create a roundabout feel. This then leads into zone three; a square area, and finally into zone four which is a larger open space.

Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe

This photograph is taken from the Gardens at Shute House, one of Jellicoe's final projects before his death, and shows a pond which is a diversion from the River Nadder. The water flows between a series of pools, canals and waterfalls which travel through the gardens, creating a tranquil atmosphere. I personally enjoy how the water reflects the beautiful foliage, creating an enclosed feel to this particular area of the garden, as well as the curved edge to the water feature, leading the visitor along it into the more open space in the distance.

Roberto Burle Marx

Despite being built after Roberto Burle Marx's death, I think his influence is apparent in the design of this section of the garden at Montero. I find the flowing water features to add a peaceful dynamism to the landscape which is complemented by the simplicity of the bridge and path which travels over the water. The planting gives the impression of a tropical paradise, sheltered from the outside world and thriving with life.
